We were expecting a dozen or so in the audience but about 100 turned up.
They seemed to really enjoy the images of Hastings and Eastbourne but the item that got them really talking was a piece about the evacuation of Dunkirk. ” My husband was at Dunkirk and I lost him to the war”
” My great uncle served on the Eastbourne lifeboat”
” We were enthralled by the show”
” Really professional”

Punch and Judy in Covent Garden

We’ve been wanting to go to London’s Covent Garden May Fair for years and somehow other things have always taken over, but this year we got up horrible early and made our way to St Paul’s church where they hold an annual Mr Punch church service.
We’d been to Covent Garden a few times before but hadn’t discovered the little park behind the church or been inside St Paul’s itself, a beautiful building dating back to the 1600′s. The service was a surprise in itself, Mr Punch in the pulpit, Samuel Pepys reading from the bible and a carnival mix of clowns, brass band musicians and choristers parading down the aisles.

One of the highlights for me was meeting genuine Pearly Kings and Queens. I’ve seen lots of people dressed up in pearly buttoned clothes but I could spot the genuine article straight away, there was a quiet dignity about them.

Brighton History Show

On Monday 11th May we did a lunch-time show for the Learning and Skills Council area team in Brighton. We were very pleased with the turn-out as people were giving up their lunch-breaks to watch it. Here’s a comment we received back.

“Thanks so much for coming in yesterday and giving us a presentation on the Magic Lantern. I am so pleased it went well and you had an appreciative audience for it – I know all the comments from everyone were that they really enjoyed it. I found it so interesting and loved the pictures of the (West) pier and the station at night.”

Our show at Hollycombe

Over May Bank holiday we performed several shows at the Hollycombe Steam Collection. We love it there as we get to perform in an original Bioscope ( a wooden theatre that would have been transported round the country showing early films and magic lantern slides).

We had full houses pretty much all day; it gives us a buzz to see kids cracked up laughing at the same stories and pictures that their great- great- great’s would have enjoyed over 1oo years ago.
